Ontological Exploration of Jean Rhys in Wide Sargasso Sea
The existential values have always been questioned until a struggle is formulated and identical venture is not achieved. Ontology is the philosophical study of the nature of being, existence or reality in general, as well as of the basic categories of being and their relations. Meanwhile, all the relations including human, historical, social or all other possible sphere where man traditionally or modernly can develop relations and identity. Traditionally pointed as a part of the major branch of philosophy known as metaphysics, ontology deals with questions concerning what parts exist or can be declared to exist, and how such entities can be grouped, related within a hierarchy, and subdivided according to similarities and differences. There developed a complicated theory of being, according to which only individual things, called substances, fully have being, but other things such as relations, quantity, time, and place (called the categories) have a derivative kind of being, dependent on individual things. The four causes of existence or change in nature have been observed; the material cause, the formal cause, the efficient cause, and the final cause. A Feminine text cannot fail to be more than subversive. It is volcanic, as it is written it brings about an upheaval of the old property crust, carrier of masculine investments; there’s no other way.
The human values which relegate and move around the substantial existential aspects demand for the ontological studies. The Western philosophical thought, essentially a patriarchal system, uses literature as a discourse not only to re-inscribe and transmit male ideology but also to create, validate and mould our sense of the world. Such a prescriptive/descriptive nature of literary narrative serves to perpetuate social practices, symbols and psychological dynamics that has the power to shape women and men as social beings.
